Who we are:
Maclagan Inc. is an independent Employee Benefit Consulting and Insurance Brokerage firm with over 40 years experience in the design, marketing, and communication of both domestic and international benefit programs for the self-employed entrepreneur, associations, as well as public and private corporations ranging in size from a handful of employees to the Federal Government, Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, CBC and other Crown corporations.
E. Scott Maclagan entered the employee benefit consulting field in March 1964 with William M. Mercer Limited, Toronto. He opened the Mercer Ottawa office on January 1, 1969. He has been employed by major consulting firms, an international insurance company, and by a firm offering on-line computerized benefit administration services. Prior to his early retirement in October 1996 he was a Senior Vice-President and Director of Seabury & Smith (a Marsh company).
In November 1996 he incorporated E. S. Maclagan & Associates Inc. in order to provide consulting services to a wide variety of clients. With the assistance of Steven Maclagan he developed the Menuflex Benefits Program and the Menuflex web site. Steven continues to work on all communications materials and ongoing website development. In the fall of 2005 Maclagan & Associates was sold to Alternative Benefit Solutions (ABS), the Third Party Administrator of the Program. Maclagan Inc. was then incorporated and the firm continues to serve clients across Canada.
On March 1, 2007, John Maclagan joined the firm after 25 years of sales and marketing experience with major packaged goods manufacturers in a national accounts role.

Our consulting and related assignments have included:
- The design, marketing and communication of the Servicemen’s’ Income Security Insurance Plan (SISIP) and the Servicemen’s Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan for the then 80,000 plus members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
- The design and implementation of the Premium Reduction Program for Wage Loss Replacement Plans for the Unemployment Insurance Commission.
- The development and marketing of the Employee Benefits Program components of the Molson Customer Care Program; the Stentor Alliance (all of Canada’s telcos); and the TELUS BusinessLink Program - all designed to assist members/clients in controlling their benefits costs.
